About 88% of what comes into your eyes ends up being ‘seen’ by you.

The rest of visual information entering the eyeball is used by the sleep/wake system and the system used to influence eye movement.

Of the 88%, around 40% is information about the object so that your brain can recognise it, With the remaining information shooting to the back of your head up the top to let you know where the object is in space.
