There are many different perspectives on this subject, just as there are many types of coaching. I believe the best way to approach the relationship between coach and client, is to make it so you and client grow 'together'.
It's possible that in the beginning, your client is someone who is 'stuck' and in need of someone who can establish a positive relationship with them in which they can feel safe and supported in moving beyond being 'stuck', towards being more at 'cause' in their life, feeling more empowered and motivated towards achieving their main goals in life and business.
However, beyond this, your client will need a different level of support that grows into something more of a solution-focused nature, maybe with a specific set of skills that enables them to be their best in whatever it is they wish to excel in... this could be relationships, business, emotional stuff..
So as your client grows, you need to switch modes and focus, to grow with them. Using your skills as a coach to support them to choose their own goals, and their path and tap into their resources to move forward towards bigger and bigger goals.
